'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 plot spoilers: Showrunner talks Nick's new addiction, relationship with Luciana
Nick (Frank Dillane) is currently hanging out with a new crew in the second half of AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead," but he may not be there for long.
According to "Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson, while Nick stumbling upon the new community in the season 2 midseason premiere seems to be a fulfilment of the young man's wish to find similar-minded survivors, things will not turn out the way he expects. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Erickson said that Nick's time with the colonia will be used to explore what is essentially the character's new addiction, one that replaced his former heroin habit.
"He's replacing his drug with the dead, essentially," the showrunner said. "What we wanted to do in the back half of the season is lean into that idea, and potentially Nick will find out that his expectations are a bit too high and not everything will be as it seems with this community," he added
Erickson also spoke about Nick's relationship with Luciana, the new character played by Danay Garcia. Luciana is one of the most important members of the new community. She is also a firm believer that the zombie apocalypse is a kind of purging that the world needs. But will her beliefs prove too extreme for Nick?
"There might be an interesting relationship that develops between the two of them beyond the spiritual and beyond the dead," the showrunner teased.
Meanwhile, the U.K.'s Channel 4 was recently censured for showing what was deemed to be a "distressing" ad for the popular zombie apocalypse series during an animated children's program.
According to the BBC, Channel 4 accidentally aired a "Fear the Walking Dead" advertisement twice during the animated comedy, "Rango," back in April.
The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority upheld three complaints filed about the ad, ruling that it could be "distressing" to younger children and "unsuitable" for older ones.
Channel 4 has admitted its mistake and released a statement, saying, "We take our responsibilities as a broadcaster very seriously and we are putting measures in place to prevent this from happening again."
New episodes of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 air every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
