The latest episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 unveiled a surprising twist that may have introduced the concept of immunity in the post-zombie apocalypse world.

In it, Nick (Frank Dillane) finds out the reason behind the Colonia's belief in the undead being an essential step in human evolution. As it turns out, Alejandro (Paul Calderon), the community leader of the Colonia, was once bitten by a walker but somehow survived. This incident gave rise to the community's belief that there are people who are meant to survive the zombie apocalypse — that these chosen few are destined to inherit the Earth — and has elevated Alejandro to what is essentially a mythical figure. This whole idea also rests on the zombies not being the enemy, but merely being nature's tool to weed out the undeserving and unfit.

But is it true that Alejandro survived a zombie bite and lived to tell the tale? Or is it just one big scam?

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, "Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson said that Nick's central dilemma in season 2B revolves around his faith and belief in Alejandro. Specifically, Nick will struggle with his faith in a father figure (Alejandro) at a time when he feels disconnected from his own father.

Erickson also said that Nick will struggle to find the strength to believe in Alejandro even though he doubts the validity of the man's claims.

"Luciana, conversely, believes completely, as do the folks in the community," he said and added on to say that "the truth of Alejandro and the question of faith is something we will play out over the course of the season, and we'll address it ultimately."

In an interview with Latina, "Fear" newbie Danay Garcia, who plays Luciana, spoke about her character, saying that Luciana is an "out of the box thinker."

"She sees death as an evolution of us," the actress said. "So we protect them and they protect us from the humans, she sees it in a constructive way, a way that it doesn't engage fear towards these people," she added.

"Do Not Disturb," the tenth episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2, will air on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
