'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release date rumors 2016: Remake among Famitsu's most wanted games; coming in 2017?
The highly anticipated "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is currently one of the most wanted games on Famitsu's chart.
According to Famitsu, votes cased between Aug. 25 to Aug. 31 this year indicated that Square's Enix upcoming "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is the sixth most wanted new video game. The most wanted list also includes plenty of familiar titles, including "Final Fantasy 15," which took the top spot, and "Persona 5," which came at number 2.
It should be noted that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" placed sixth in the list despite there being practically no information revealed this year about the upcoming action role-playing game.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," which was announced at Electornics Enterntainmen Expo 2015, will have an episodic structure. According to Square Enix, the remake will be composed of several full-sized games.
In an interview with Game Informer, "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that the remake team is using the "Final Fantasy 13" series as a model for the upcoming game.
"It will essentially be a full scale game for each part of the multi-part series," Kitase said. "In 13, each instalment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense," he added.
According to Kitase, some aspects of "Final Fantasy 7," which was released almost two decades ago, are being revamped for the remake.
"I, along with [Tetsuya] Nomura-san and [Kazushige] Kojima-San — who are involved with the remake — were also involved with the original Final Fantasy," he said. "We were the people who created it, so in that sense, we don't think anything is untouchable. That isn't to say we're changing everything!," he continued.
Though Square Enix has not announced the official release date for the video game, there are currently reports that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" could come out sometime in 2017.
Before that, however, "Final Fantasy 15" drops Nov. 29 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
