'Final Fantasy XV' news: Release dates for upcoming DLCs revealed; director Hajime Tabata speaks on game's possible PC release
Square Enix will be releasing a number of new "Final Fantasy XV" expansion packs this year, and the release dates for upcoming DLCs have been announced.
According to reports, the first expansion this year goes live on Feb. 21. The DLC features a Magitek Exosuit which improves a player's performance during battle. The next expansion called Episode Gladio lands on March 28, and it lets players take on the role of Gladio. Other party members like Prompto and Ignis will also have their own episodes.
The Prompto chapter is scheduled to be launched in June, while the company has yet to announce a release date for the Ignis episode. Comrades is another expansion that is expected to be out this year, and it will add four-player co-op, including all of the game's four main characters. Unfortunately, the company still has not set a launch date for this DLC.
In other news, "Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata recently spoke with Weekly Famitsu (via Gematsu), and he gave an update on the game's overall sales. Tabata stated that the sales for both physical and digital versions of the game are good not only in Japan but also in Western countries. The hit RPG debuted exclusively for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but during the interview, Tabata revealed that he also wants a PC release in the near future.
"I'd like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt," he said. "I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines, and we personally would like to see it, too. Also, I would like to try developing on PC to pursue a unique way of playing with PC-exclusive features like making your own quests and enjoying the world using things like mods," Tabata went on to say.
As for the confirmed VR content, Tabata said "development is progressing," but they still can't set a release date this early.
Developed and published by Square Enix, "Final Fantasy XV" is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
