Fla. Sen. Marco Rubio Warns Obama to Stop Accepting Syrian Refugees
2016 presidential hopeful Marco Rubio spoke out against the United States' acceptance of Middle Eastern refugees this week, warning President Obama that some of the refugees could be Islamic extremists.
Florida Senator Rubio said in a recent interview that it would be impossible to vet all refugees entering the U.S. to ensure none of them had ties to the Islamic State.
"You can have a thousand people come in and 999 of them are just poor people fleeing oppression and violence," Rubio said. "But one of them is an ISIS fighter. If that's the case, you have a problem."
"There's no way to vet that out," Rubio continued. "There's no background check system in the world that allows us to find that out because who do you call in Syria to background check them?"
Rubio joins several other American politicians calling on the U.S. to halt its acceptance of immigrants from the Middle East following the Paris terror attacks that claimed 129 lives over the weekend.
Governors from several states joined in a pledge to refuse to allow refugees to enter their state given the recent terror attack.
This week, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order that blocks Syrian refugees from entering the state.
The order argues that "it is foreseeable that the introduction of Syrian refugees into the United States without proper prior screening and follow-up monitoring could result in a threat to the citizens and property of this State."
