A local sheriff's department in Florida has been forced to send back new rugs after it noticed a typo that read "In Dog We Trust" on the city's official seal, instead of the state's motto of "In God We Trust."

The mat had been sitting at the entrance to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office for two months before one of the office's deputies noticed the typo, reportedly made on accident by the $500 rug's manufacturer, American Floor Mats.

The sheriff's department is now suggesting that it may put the misprinted rug up for auction to benefit a local animal rights group, hoping that perhaps an animal lover would take interest in the botched floor mat.

According to ABC News, the Pinellas County sheriff's department oversees the cities of St. Petersburg and Clearwater.

The rugs have reportedly been rolled up and stored away while the sheriff's office determines what to do with the misprinted floor mats.

"It is certainly taking on a life of its own," Pinellas Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told the Tampa Bay Times shortly after media outlets began following the strange story. "We are actively exploring how to do an online auction and donate the proceeds to an animal rescue organization."

Some have offered to buy the rugs on the sherriff's office Facebook page, suggesting they may use the mat as a bed for their dog.

"I'm a great dog person and really find that a rug like that would be wonderful for my dogs to have for beds," wrote one commenter.
