Former ISIS sex slave keeps baby fathered by ISIS fighter: "He's My Son, Not Theirs"

An Iraqi woman who bore a child after being raped by ISIS fighters has vowed to love her son as much as any other member of her family but she has decided not to tell him about his father.

"He's my son, he's not the son of ISIS," said Umm Al'aa (not her real name). She was already 40 years old when ISIS took over her hometown in 2014. She added that her neighbors supported the terror group but she and her family refused, which made them a target.

The fighters regularly came to her home and her daughter was attacked during one of their visits.

"They came and beat [her]. They tore off her headscarf, they ripped her clothes. They said: 'Let's rape her.' But one of them, the top guy, the big one, he did not allow them to. He said: 'We want the mother,'" she told CNN.

Umm Al'aa was cornered at the market one day and forced to get into a car. She was made into a slave and lived as a prisoner for a year and a half. Near the end of her captivity, one of the militants decided to beat and rape her.

"I tried to fight, I cried a lot. There was a lot of pain, I was beaten a lot, but I couldn't do anything," she narrated.

She was already pregnant when she was released by ISIS. She decided to move on and forget her experience. She named the baby Mohammed, after her husband, who was recently killed in the battle between Iraqi-led forces and ISIS fighters.

"He loved me a lot. My best memory of him was how much he loved and respected me. Yes we are poor people, but we were happy," she said.

Former sex slaves reported that ISIS members use several methods to prevent the pregnancy of their sex slaves. It was revealed that the terror group uses oral and injectable contraception, sometimes even both. In one case, a woman was forced to abort her baby so that she could be available for sex.
