'Frozen 2' release date, plot news 2016: Calls for a lesbian Elsa create firestorm of controversy around kids movie
Amid the excitement of eager fans from all over the globe for the return of the animated franchise movie "Frozen" to the big screens, the sequel is confronted with controversy as LGBT activists call for a "lesbian" Elsa (Idina Menzel) to appear.
The past weeks have seen social media platforms Facebook and Twitter buzzing with the hashtag "give Elsa a girlfriend". On the other end of the debate spectrum, many have also taken to Citizengo.org to campaign against the proposals, refuting it with the hashtag "charming prince for Elsa."
The petitioners on Citizengo.org have launched the campaign to bring their argument to the attention of Disney. Calling the viral campaign to turn Elsa into a lesbian an "absurd movement," they in turn have suggested "an idea that promotes solid family values to our children."
They say that they want to make a reminder that children are innocent and a film widely popular to them should not be weaved through with political messages but should rather stick to helping inculcate in them values such as love, friendship and loyalty.
"Frozen 2" was officially announced in March 2015 and it is targeted to be released in 2018.
