"Frozen 2" has joined the ranks of most anticipated movie sequels to date ever since it was officially announced last year. And although information has been scarce since then, fans are still holding on to hope that Queen Elsa and Princess Anna will find their way back to the silver screen sooner than expected.

The shortage of factual confirmation about the upcoming movie's plot has led fans to speculate on all sorts of possibilities, from Elsa and Olaf's love lives to Anna's origins and latent superpowers. Recent rumors suggest that one of the sisters' parents could be alive and may well be returning for the sequel.

As the rumored storyline goes, the sisters' father might have survived the shipwreck that was believed to have killed him and his wife on their way to a wedding. However, coming back to Arendelle, no one will recognize him and will thus be forced to leave the land he once ruled. But thanks to the jolly snowman, Olaf, Arendelle's former king will at least have a chance to meet his daughters, if not take over the crown.

However, this is not an official synopsis, but is rather fans' way of filling in the gaps as Disney continues to keep details about "Frozen 2" tightly under wraps.

In an interview with Collider earlier this year, actress Kristen Bell who did the voice of Anna, said that they have not started recording yet, but that the script was already written and they should be able to begin recording soon. They may have or may have not begun recording yet, but since the cast and crew has been keeping mum about it, there is no way of confirming this matter.

What's known for sure is that "Frozen 2" will still remain a story between the two sisters, Elsa and Anna, because they are and will always be the heart of the "Frozen" franchise.

"Regardless of where their next journey takes them, at least they'll be together," writer and director Jennifer Lee told MTV in an interview last year.

No release date has been announced for "Frozen 2," but speculations are pointing to a possible 2018 release, with a rumored Christmas Special starring Olaf coming in 2017.

Meanwhile, "Frozen: Northern Lights," the collaborative project between LEGO and Disney is available to watch now for free on Disney's official YouTube channel.
