'Furious 7' Release Date: Vin Diesel's Family Duties Force Postponement of World Premiere

UNIVERSAL PICTURES

"Furious 7" ran out of diesel, forcing the film's producers to put the brakes on the planned premiere of the highly-anticipated movie at a hotel in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

The producers were forced to cancel a "splashy" world premiere for the latest installment of the "Fast and the Furious" franchise after its top star Vin Diesel chose to do daddy duties to his third child instead of attending the scheduled Feb. 26 event.

The premiere was supposed to take place at the Emirates Palace, one of the movie's major shooting locations.

The postponement is considered as another setback for the film, which is already delayed from its original July 2014 release to April 2015 showing following the death of Diesel's co-star Paul Walker in 2013.

Diesel has been notoriously private about his personal life. He is said to be secretly expecting a third child with his partner, model Paloma Jimenez, who is due to deliver on March 10 or thereafter.

"He wants to be with his family at the birth; it's a beautiful thing. What human being wouldn't?" a source said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Diesel, who also produced the seventh movie of the "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, already shared daughter Hania and son Vincent with Jimenez.

In August 2013, he made the only public appearance with his partner and their kids, stepping out to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The world premiere of the movie will reportedly be held in Los Angeles on April 1 with Universal Studios saying it is more than "happy to premiere the film in L.A., the birthplace of the franchise."

Diesel is very much the face of the "Fast & Furious" franchise, starring in four out of six previous films that center around his character, Dominic Toretto, and Walker's cop-turned-street racer Brian O'Conner.

The 47-year-old actor is considered as the selling point of the $2.3-billion franchise.

"Furious 7" also stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.

Jason Statham will play the villain's role following a cameo in 2013's "Fast & Furious 6."

First released in 2001, the last installment, "Fast & Furious 6," earned $788.7 million worldwide.

Directed by James Wan, "Furious 7" was completed with Walker's brothers Caleb and Cody doubling for the actor, who died before all his scenes had been shot.
