'Game of Thrones' season 7 cast news, rumors: Angela Lansbury joining cast?
Another acclaimed actor is said to be joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" season 7.
A recent report from Bild, a German outlet, suggests that "Murder, She Wrote" star Angela Lansbury is currently in talks to board the HBO series' penultimate season. Should the negotiations prove to be fruitful, Lansbury will reportedly guest-star in two episodes of the popular fantasy drama's season 7.
Apart from her multi-awarded turn as mystery writer/amateur detective Jessica Fletcher in the long-running "Murder, She Wrote," Lansbury has appeared in a long list of movies, television shows, and stage productions throughout a career which spans eight decades. She received an Honorary Academy Award in 2013.
The report did not reveal Lansbury's role in the upcoming season. It did, however, suggest that the iconic actress would be on the "Game of Thrones" set for four days.
While HBO has yet to comment on Lansbury's supposed role in "Game of Thrones" season 7, should her casting pan out, the "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" actress will join fellow Oscar winner and "Harry Potter" actor Jim Broadbent in the HBO series.
Last month, the network made its first major casting announcement for "Game of Thrones" season 7 when it added Broadbent to the "Game of Thrones" cast list. Entertainment Weekly notes that Broadbent's undisclosed role is a "significant" one in season 7.
Apart from playing Professor Horace Slughorn in the "Harry Potter" film franchise, Broadbent is also known for his roles in films such as "Bridget Jones's Diary" (2001), "Moulin Rouge!" (2001), and "Gangs of New York" (2002).
ComicBook.com theorizes that the actor could play a maester at the Citadel in Oldtown, where Sam (John Bradley) and Gilly (Hannah Murray) ended up in season 6. Meanwhile, Inverse suggests that Broadbent could play the long-awaited role of Howland Reed, Meera (Ellie Kendrick) and Jojen's (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) father and Ned's (Sean Bean) good friend.
"Game of Thrones" season 7 is currently filming in Northern Ireland and will premiere on HBO in 2017.
