'Game of Thrones' season 7 news: Next season to premiere in July?
"Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been keeping mum about the exact date of season 7's premiere, only saying that the show will air later than usual. This was because the cast and crew had to shoot until February to fit the "winter is here" theme. However, Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, may have unintentionally revealed when the latest episode will air.
In an interview with Independent.IE, he said, "I've been disappointing various people around the world because it was meant to come out in April. It's July now, I think."
There were previous rumors suggesting that the show will premiere in April. However, Cunningham's words indicated that season 7 will start even later than that. In that same interview, he revealed that while "something special" is being prepared for the premiere, there is also something that will disappoint fans.
He said, "The bad news is, there will only be seven episodes and the final season starts again as far as I know in September." The small number of episodes may be due to the fact that the final volume of the story will be split into two for television. The second half will be covered in season 8, the show's final season.
The cast and crew have revealed very little information about the upcoming season, only providing snippets in order to excite the show's fans. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, said in an interview with Time Out, that the show will have a "huge cliffhanger," although she indicated that the storylines of the characters will converge in season 7.
"We've come to the climax, and it's rolling down to the end. It's exciting," she said. "I really felt like at the end of last season, everything was set up for how it was going to end," she added.
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, described season 7 as a "mind blower" on her Instagram account. This was posted the day before she finished filming her scenes for the show.
