'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers, plot news: Hodor returning as White Walker? Kristian Nairn calls it a 'travesty'
Too many fan-favorites on "Game of Thrones" have been killed off, with Hodor (Kristian Nairn) being among the recent ones. Halfway through the last season, Bran's (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) loyal bodyguard died defending his crippled ward. Those wanting him back on the show, however, have speculated on his return in the upcoming season 7 of "Game of Thrones." Even though Hodor is already dead, it's been said that there's still a way to bring him back.
In the show, many know of the white humanoid creatures with blue eyes called the White Walkers. Some have heard stories but only a few really believe in their existence, thinking of them as something like fairy tales, except for those who have been unfortunate to meet their end at the hands of such creatures. Dead men tell no tales though, so mercifully, too few know that, in the realm, these creatures truly exist.
As the characters in the series fight their wars, what most do not realize is that, ultimately, the enemy that threatens all is the Night King and his White Walkers. A fan theory has it that the "Game of Thrones" series will end with a war between people and creatures of the Night King.
Nothing can kill these creatures, except for a special weapon made from dragon glass or Valyrian steel, or when set on fire.
As fans would have it, what better way for Hodor to come back than as a White Walker? To distinguish though, a dead man resurrected by the Night King would be a "wight," not a White Walker. White Walkers are ordinary humans transformed by the Night King by mere touch; only, it would have to be done when they are still infants, as with Craster's (Robert Pugh) son.
Although there has been no official talk of Hodor's return as a White Walker, some believe the idea is not entirely without credit. Fans of the show will remember that Hodor was fighting these creatures when he met his end.
Nairn expressed his thoughts on this theory. In a recent interview with The Independent, he said: "As much as I would like to come back and play a White Walker, I think it would be wrong... A zombie Hodor is not a pretty thought."
The actor also said it would be "a bit of a travesty." He said that if Hodor's comeback will happen, he is sure the showrunners would do it in a way that would be "really cool."
