'Ghostbusters' Reboot Release Date, Casting News: All-Female Cast Revealed
Director Paul Feig must have had so much fun filming "Bridesmaids" four years ago that he decided to team up with its stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy once again.
But nope, there won't be a "Bridesmaids 2" yet! Fieg has confirmed that he will be reuniting with the two commediennes in a reboot of the "Ghostbusters" series, which will be released on July 22, 2016.
The director, who also worked with McCarthy in "The Heat" in 2013, also announced that Saturday Night Live stand-outs Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon will be joining his new cast, BBC News reported.
In a word-less tweet, Feig posted a collage of photos featuring Wiig, McCarthy, Jones, and McKinnon as well as the comedy film's new release on Tuesday night.
However, the actresses are reportedly still in negotiations to take on the roles which were made famous by Bill Muraay, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, according to Deadline.
Feig, who penned the reboot's script, said he feels confident enough about them inking their deals for the new "Ghosbusters" film, which will begin filming this summer, the Huffington Post wrote.
The Ivan Reitman-directed "Ghostbusters" film made almost $300 million at the global box office in 1984 before a sequel, "Ghostbusters II" was made five years later.
Plans for a follow-up have been mooted ever since, but appeared to have been scuppered by Murray's reluctance to sign up for it.
Ramis' death last year appeared to have made the prospect unlikely aside from Reitman's decision to rule himself out as director last March.
Feig's involvement gave new impetus to the project. "It's a shame to just let this thing sit there. My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all-female cast? That would be really fun," he said.
