'Gilmore Girls' revival news, release date: Netflix boss explains 'Gilmore Girls' release schedule, says he's 'petrified' of show's fans
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos has revealed that the reason the four episodes of the "Gilmore Girls" revival event will be dropped all at once is because fans would not have been happy with a staggered release.
While there are those who can't wait to get their hands on all four 90-minute revival chapters of "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," the upcoming Netflix reboot of the beloved comedy/drama, there are also fans who would appreciate it if the episodes were to be made available one at a time. A staggered release is apparently also what series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted.
Speaking with TVLine last month at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) summer press tour, Sarandos said, "If we would not have [released them] all at once the fans would've killed us."
"I'm petrified of those fans; they are so passionate," he added.
Meanwhile, Sherman-Palladino told reporters at the press tour, "I told them I was going to hang myself with a shower curtain if they put them all out at once, and they said, 'Wow, OK."
During the TCA press tour, the "Gilmore Girls" creator also revealed that she had not seen the seventh and final season of the cult favorite series. Sherman-Palladino and her husband/co-executive producer, Dan, had exited the series after its sixth season.
According to Sherman-Palladino, she had "big themes" in mind for the revival that, fortunately, the show's season 7 had no effect on. Speaking with the press, she said that she had asked Netflix if any of her ideas for the revival would be stepping on any events in season 7. Only one aspect of the final season, she revealed, diverts from what happens in "A Year in the Life."
"There was one thing I wish... I'm not going to tell you," she teased. "It was the only thing where I was like, 'Ah, I'll go a different way.'"
"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" drops Friday, Nov. 25, at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix.
