'Girl Meets World' season 4 air date, news and updates: Show still hasn't been picked up by Freeform TV; Sabrina Carpenter not returning
Though "Girl Meets World" ("GMW") is currently waiting on its third season for 2017, the show may very well be nearing its end. Fans online have been scrambling to find out if the show is going to continue for a fourth season — even if it has to move out of Disney Channel and into the arms of another network.
According to reports, the future of the show greatly depends on whether another network will pick the show up for a fourth season. As of now, fans are looking at Freeform TV to pick the show up since the network currently runs reruns of "Boy Meets World," the original show that "GMW" was adapted from.
As of now, there is an online petition started by fan Ashley Carter to get a fourth season of "Girl Meets World" going. The petition need about 25,000 signatures, but at 17,000 supporters, the petition needs something close to 8,000 more signatures.
The show is expected to see the return of lead actresses Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter if a fourth season is to be picked up, but recent news say that Carpenter is planning on ditching the show in order to focus on a career in music. She recently launched her own album called "Evolution," and working on a TV show may get in the way of any planned tours and concerts.
It's possible that the show's cancellation could be due to the age of the actors and how their graduation from high school may not sit that well with younger viewers. Nevertheless, fans have been vocal about their desire for a fourth season, and with enough buzz, it might be an offer that the networks couldn't refuse.
The original series, "Boy Meets World," debuted back in 1993 and starred Ben Savage as a young Cory Matthews. In "Girl Meets World," Cory has grown up and gotten married, and the story focuses on his daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) as she goes through the same problems that her dad had.
No official news has come out on whether "Girl Meets World" will be renewed for a fourth season.
