'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal update: show to be revived with more mature storylines? talks with 'interested platforms' underway
"Girl Meets World" may soon be ending on Disney Channel, but that does not mean Riley's (Rowan Blanchard) story is yet to see its conclusion.
Series creator Michael Jacobs, who is also behind the show's parent series, "Boy Meets World," spoke to The Wrap about plans to make "Girl Meets World" season 4 happen.
"We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms," Jacob said. Fans are hoping Netflix or Hulu will step up to save the show.
He noted that the chances of "Girl Meets World" finding a new home for season 4 is made more possible with the help of fans, who continue to campaign for the show's renewal.
"The paper airplane campaign, calling the actual cable stations and saying 'this is the next show we want here,' the overwhelming response — there's a symbiosis between this show and its audience, that is so incredibly appreciated by us," he gushed about the efforts fans have been showing to make "Girl Meets World" season 4 a reality.
Jacobs added that should the show be renewed, everyone will likely be back to do it. The show appears to have impacted the people that worked on it as much as the viewers.
He is also excited about the prospect of telling more mature stories in "Girl Meets World" season 4 should it be reborn in a new home. Such as a creative limitation imposed by Disney.
Jacobs believes that "Girl Meets World" ended too soon and believes that it should not have been canceled. He revealed they signed for four seasons and so they plotted the story to cover four years.
"That's the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end," Jacobs went on to say.
The "Girl Meets World" finale, "Girl Meets Goodbye," airs Tuesday, Jan. 20. It will mark the biggest "Boy Meets World" reunion for the show.
