'Glee' Season 6 Spoilers, Episode Recap: 'Transitioning' Focuses On Transgender Issues
In the seventh episode of "Glee" Season 6, entitled "Transitioning," which aired last Friday, the show tried to cover the issue of transgender change.
Coach Shannon Bieste (Dot Marie-Jones) returned to McKinley High as Sheldon Bieste, after a sex-reassignment surgery. Although he was greeted with support and encouragement by Principal Sue Silvester and Assistant Coach Sam Evans, not everyone was fully accepting, as was evident when Bieste discovered that his car had been vandalized with the words "Coach Tranny."
The vandals turned out to be the kids from Vocal Adrenaline, the show choir that Will Schuster was currently handling. Schuster was seen in the episode as first trying to enumerate the great perks and benefits of his current job, to show how happy he was. But as the episode progressed, he was seen increasingly getting unhappy and frustrated, not having bonded as well with the kids as he did with the New Directions. It didn't help that the kids from Vocal Adrenaline seemed to be just as scheming and conniving.
In another story arc, Rachel Berry's home had been offered up for sale by her fathers, and she had problems accepting it. She did strange and stupid things to try and stop the sale of the house, including appearing as a ghost (reminiscent of "The Ring") in the bathroom, when the house was being shown to prospective buyers.
The episode also included the re-appearance of Unique (Alex Newell), herself a victim of bullying in the previous "Glee" season.
