Golden State Warriors trade rumors: Denver Nuggets inquire on Klay Thompson
Just when everyone thought the star-studded line-up for the Golden State Warriors is set for a great season, rumors circulating depict that their core may be set for a split.
The Warriors were considered the overall winners in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, with the former Oklahoma City Thunder star agreeing to a two-year deal to move to another Western Conference heavyweight.
While the move drew a lot of flak from social media, it undeniably made the Warriors favorites to win the NBA championship in the coming season.
Other than Durant, the team still had Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.
However, rumors are going around that the Warriors may be looking to unload one of their stars to make room for bench players.
Reports mentioned that the Denver Nuggets are looking at Thompson and are ready to trade Danilo Gallinari and Will Barton for the hot-shooting guard.
On paper, this looks like an unfair deal for the Warriors, but looking at the talent they gave up in order to pick up Durant, then the Warriors might consider this to add depth to their bench to help the remaining stars of the team.
Other reports also mentioned that it is possible that both teams are looking at this for the long term.
Thompson has emerged as one of the best players in the league today. Last year, he averaged a career-high in points as he averaged 22.1 points while shooting 47 percent from the field. He was also deadly from beyond the arc, converting 43 percent of his shots from deep in the entire season.
At 26 years old, Thompson may still be peaking as a player and should be a big star, wherever he plays.
It is now a matter of whether this scenario is true and if the Warriors are considering giving up the man who, at times, saved them during the 2015–16 NBA Playoffs.
