Google Nexus 7 release date, specs update: Google drops the Nexus brand in favor of Pixel
Google is said to have officially dropped the "Nexus" brand for any future devices in favor of "Pixel," but that doesn't mean that Nexus has been totally forgotten. Reports are saying that the old Nexus 7 (which came out in 2013), has an unofficial Android 7.0 Nougat ROM with AOSP 7.0.
According to reports, fans who have been waiting for the device that's next in the Nexus series will in for a disappointment. Not because Google won't be making any more devices, but because the latest Nexus phone that's come out will probably be the last of the brand. From now on, any more smartphones or tablets from Google will be branded with Pixel.
There was also news of a Nexus 7 tablet to come out for 2016, but reports have been saying that the device will no longer be branded as a Nexus Tablet. Speculations have been posted online that the tablet will run with NVIDIA's Tegra X1 processing chip, and it will also have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor.
The device will also come with 4GB of RAM, and an internal storage of 128GB that can even be expanded all the way up to 2 TB. The tablet is said to be manufactured by Huawei.
The tablet is also said to come with the latest Android OS which is the Android Nougat, and the Nougat will be having a host of new features like an updated camera app, multi-window support, updated folder designs, and even a VR platform which the developers have dubbed as Daydream.
The tablet is said to come with a price tag of $260 and is slated to hit shelves this coming Thanksgiving (Nov. 24). With the specs and features that the tablet has been rumored to have, fans are saying that it could rival the sales of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
The next Nexus 7 (if Google doesn't change the name) will arrive this Nov 24.
