GoPro Hero 5 Black, GoPro Hero 5 Session release date, specs news update: New action cameras promise hands-free footage
GoPro aims to provide consumers with cameras that are nearly weightless. With the recent unveiling of the GoPro Hero 5 Black and GoPro Hero 5 Session, it seems that the tech company has just gotten a huge step closer to achieving that goal.
Not only are GoPro's new flagship action cameras light and portable, they are also now easier to use. Gone are the complicated function buttons and waterproofing case that interfere with the user's experience. The new GoPro Hero 5 Black is instead equipped with a touchscreen and voice control features that make it easier to access camera controls while on the go. GoPro's newest action camera also comes with a rubberized black exterior that allows underwater submersion of up to 10 meters deep.
According to Value Walk, GoPro's previous action cameras suffered criticism for its complicated controls. GoPro Hero 5 Black proves that the company does indeed listen to the consumers' needs. With a simple phrase like, "GoPro, take photo," the voice control function allows the camera to snap a photo while in the middle of recording a video. Turning the action camera on is as easy as pressing a button or just simply saying, "GoPro, turn on."
Aside from processing and complying with stock phrases, the GoPro Hero 5 Black's voice control function also has accent settings and support for seven languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese.
The GoPro Hero 5 Black also features a professional-grade electronic image stabilization and longer battery life. It is also equipped with three microphones that work together to capture the best muffle-free audio to complement the high quality footage captured by the camera's 4K resolution filming.
On the other hand, the GoPro Hero 5 Session is the smaller, cheaper, cube-shaped version of the Hero 5 Black that also bears all of the latter's features minus the touchscreen, the RAW or WDR modes, and the GPS tracking capability. Despite its small size, GoPro founder Nick Woodman claims that it's the most durable camera that they have constructed to date.
The GoPro Hero 5 Black is priced at $299 while the GoPro Hero 5 Session costs $199. The action cameras were unveiled on Sept. 19 during the GoPro Karma drone launch event. Black and Session can both work well with the Karma drone. Orders can now be placed on GoPro's official website.
