Gotham Season 1 Spoilers, Recap News: The Origin Of Scarecrow Explored
The origin of the Scarecrow was explored in the latest episode of "Gotham," which aired on Monday at 8/7c on Fox.
Subplots in the episode also included the fate of Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Cobblepot, aka the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).
Most of the episode was devoted to the murders perpetrated by Gerald Crane (Julian Sands) who harvested the adrenal glands of his victims for use in creating a special vaccine formula to combat fear which he uses on himself and, later, his son Jonathan (Charlie Tahan), hoping that the inoculation would help make both of them immune to fear.
Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) realized that Gerald was responsible for the murders after talking to one of his colleagues. They later discovered that he was experimenting on his own son.
As they arrived to arrest him, Crane together with his son ran into a field where he mistakenly injected Jonathan with a massive overdose. This caused Jonathan to collapse just next to a scarecrow as he descended permanently into a state of fear while Crane was shot and killed.
The episode also examined the fate of Fish Mooney who woke up in prison, scaring away two people who tried to rape her. She then murdered the jail officer and took over as boss of the prison. Soon afterward she discovered that someone was removing the eyes of prisoners.
Meanwhile, Penguin requested Falcone (John Doman) to help get Maroni (David Zayas) off his back. Falcone then delivered a judge to Maroni so that he could get his revenge and then agreed to pay him the money he wanted, which led to the Penguin getting off the hook.
Bruce (David Mazouz) and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) had a father-and-son bonding moment in the episode as Bruce slipped while climbing. However, even though Alfred was nearby, he allowed him to complete the climb with a sprained ankle so that he could learn from the experience.
Finally, Gordon saw some improvement in his blossoming relationship with Leslie (Morena Baccarin) even though he was awkward when he was interacting with her.
