"Gotham" season 3 will find the once-powerful Gotham underworld gangster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) making her re-appearance.

A Twitter image posted by "Gotham" executive producer and director Danny Cannon on Friday, July 8, shows off Mooney's new post-Indian Hills look. The character hasn't changed much since viewers last saw her in the back half of the show's season 2. In the image, Mooney is dressed in a blue and black costume and is sporting her usual short and spiky 'do as she stands in a doorway.

The character's return in "Gotham" season 3 isn't surprising, as the final episode of season 2 saw Mooney leading a bus full of Indian Hill's escapees away from the creepy research facility. Nonetheless, the image confirms that Mooney will have a significant role to play in the events in season 3.

Mooney was introduced in the show's freshman season, in which she played a prominent role before being seemingly killed off when she fell off a building in the season 1 finale. However, "Gotham" season 2 featured some decidedly odd twists, including bringing back several characters who had already died in previous episodes. These characters, who were reanimated by the show's Dr. Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong), included Mooney. The character was re-introduced in the second half of season 2, much to the chagrin of Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), Mooney's former underling.

Before she was brought back to life by the Arkham Asylum Chief of Psychiatry in one of his secret experiments, Mooney had been killed by Cobblepot, who had also taken over her crime syndicate. Her body was later recovered and brought to Indian Hill, where Dr. Strange was supposed to be working on laboratory experiments for Wayne Enterprises. However, the unscrupulous doctor was, in fact, working for the Court of Owls and was busy reanimating corpses for the organization's evil purposes.

Viewers will now have to stay tuned to "Gotham" season 3 to find out if Mooney has returned to exact revenge against Dr. Strange and the Court of Owls or to carry out her own evil plans against Gotham.

Meanwhile, Mooney isn't the only villain returning to "Gotham" in season 3. In an interview with Comic Book Resources in May, executive producer John Stephens revealed that "Gotham" season 3 will also see the return of the Mad Hatter, the Tweedle Brothers, Solomon Grundy, and the Court of Owls' Talon.

"Gotham" season 3 premieres Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
