Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) has just sent Gotham City into a violent spree after blowing up the power plant and plunging the city into darkness. "Do what you want, kill who you want" is the first and last decree, and "Gotham: Mad City" is about to live up to its name in the purest sense when FOX's DC-inspired crime-drama hits its midseason finale next week.

But as it will soon turn out, the impending chaos is just a cover up for a much grander scheme as the newly resurrected Jerome goes off to take care of his unfinished business: to kill Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). Titled "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies," the episode will bring pre-Batman Bruce back on the path of the man widely believed to be the prototype of his arch-nemesis, The Joker.

Will Bruce survive a faceoff with the very maniac who nearly killed him before, especially when his mind is clouded with anger and a seemingly overwhelming need for revenge?

In the trailer for the midseason finale, the young billionaire's butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), advises him that, "There's a very fine line between justice and vengeance." But a visibly enraged Bruce quips he will see Alfred again before the montage cuts to a scene at the theme park, where Jerome plans to break the hot-blooded teen with his mind games before eventually killing him. How will Bruce survive this ordeal, and what kind of a man will he become by the end of it? Will the viewers finally be treated to the first clear traces of the Dark Knight in him?

Elsewhere, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) is kept busy by an unexpected visit from his estranged uncle, Frank Gordon (James Remar), who has earlier been teased to harbor a secret that will shake Jim's world to its very foundations. Meanwhile, the bad romance between Gotham City mayor Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and his right-hand man and one true love Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) comes to a deadly halt when Oswald finally discovers Nygma's vengeful intentions.

The midseason finale of "Gotham: Mad City" airs on Monday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m. on FOX.
