'Gotham' season 3 spoilers, news, updates: Barbara tries to take over Gotham; Ben McKenzie hints return of dead characters
After stepping up in this week's "Gotham," Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) might be the next character who will try to take over the city.
In the episode titled "Time Bomb," Barbara proved that she can become a true standout as the story moves forward. Although she only has a short-term arc similar to Hugo Strange, there are speculations that she can easily climb the ranks of Gotham City's sinister villains.
Speaking to Cinemablend, Richards explained her character's actions and why she didn't kill Nygma even though she already had a chance to do so. "She's a very smart person and she reads people incredibly well," the actress said. "So when she walks in on that situation, Nygma, she can see, is in some distress... she has to think strategically, and to have Nygma as an ally for however long that's useful to her is more powerful in terms of what she can do."
On another note, lead actor Ben McKenzie recently caught up with People and he shared that he's looking forward to spending his first holiday as a dad. McKenzie has an eight-month-old daughter with his "Gotham" costar-turned-partner Morena Baccarin, and he said he plans to celebrate the holidays in New York City.
With "Gotham" currently shooting in Manhattan, McKenzie won't have to travel far when he comes back to work. According to the actor, the remaining episodes of the show's third season will be "explosive." He mentioned that some old characters who everyone thought was dead will reemerge to bring more chaos into the city, McKenzie also revealed that he has long been a fan of comic books, adding: "I grew up watching the old Adam West version and playing with Batman figurines—I think everyone's a Batman fan on some level."
"Gotham" season 3 airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
