'Grand Theft Auto 5' PC Errors and Tips: How to Avoid PC Errors

Following the launch of the downloadable edition of "Grand Theft Auto 5" for PC on April 13 in the United States, gamers who have unlocked the game have been experiencing a number of errors.

These included losing their cars when transferring the progress they made on consoles to their PC. Others could not use the update service provided by Rockstar Games.

The problem of players losing their saved cars was first noticed when those who have not played the game since 2013 transferred their progress from Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 consoles that were using GTA Online. For players who encountered this issue, nothing can be done except contact the support team at Rockstar Games.

For those who have not transferred their progress yet, they can go to GTA Online on their PS3 or Xbox 360 console and then decline the "Title Update" after which they need to select "Leave GTA Online." An icon indicating the save is underway will appear at the top of the screen and then the progress can be moved to the PC.

The other error that users have been encountering stems from Windows account names that contain special characters. If these are present the error "The Rockstar update service is unavailable (code 1)" will display and players will not be able to install and run the game properly. To get around this particular problem, the user will have to create a new account and give it administrative privileges and ensure it does not have special characters. However, Rockstar is working on a fix for this issue and it expected that it will be handled soon.

Other errors that have been cropping up when the game is being installed include the game requiring Windows Media Player. If it is not detected, the installation will be cancelled and users will then have to first download and install it.
