'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date, latest news: Next GTA game won't arrive until 2020?
"Grand Theft Auto" remains to be one of the biggest game franchises in the world, even if Rockstar Games has not released a new game installment for over three years and counting.
Its current installment, "Grand Theft Auto 5," has met massive success, shipping more than 70 million copies across multiple platforms since its release back in 2013. Hence, many gaming fans expected that the overwhelming commercial sales of the game guaranteed the launch of "Grand Theft Auto 6" sometime soon.
But "soon" isn't soon enough. With the fans' growing impatience for the release of "Grand Theft Auto 6," it seems a bootlegger has decided to feed on the high anticipation for the game and released a bootleg version of the upcoming video game.
A Reddit user shared a photo of a bootleg copy of "Grand Theft Auto 6," which the user claims he found in Brazil. According to VG 24/7, the bootleg version of "Grand Theft Auto 6" is actually "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," and it runs on the old PlayStation 2. The front cover of the game used a cartoon version of Summer Glau as a Terminator, perhaps to follow rumors that "Grand Theft Auto 6" will feature a female lead.
As to when exactly the actual "Grand Theft Auto 6" video game will be coming out, there are reports that the game won't be arriving until 2020. Rockstar is still busy developing "Red Dead Redemption 2" which is set to come out sometime in Fall 2017. Meanwhile, the company is still actively providing support for GTA Online, the multiplayer component of "Grand Theft Auto 5."
GTA Online was launched back in September 2013. After three years of supporting GTA Online, it was only recently that the company announced that they were ready to work on "Red Dead Redemption 2." Hence, some have speculated that three years after the release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" will Rockstar only be able to launch "Grand Theft Auto 6."
In the meantime, "Grand Theft Auto V" is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
