Great Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron announced this week that Britain will implement a new policy that seizes the passports of jihadist fighters, thus preventing them from returning home after aiding terrorist organizations like the Islamic State in the Middle East.

Cameron announced Friday that the there is no other way to prevent radical Britons from returning to the European country. According to the AFP, an estimated 500 British jihadists are suspected to have left Great Britain to aid the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

"We will shortly be introducing our own new Counter-Terrorism Bill in the UK," Cameron said at a press conference Friday, adding that there is "no opt-out from dealing with this."

Cameron added that the bill will allow "new powers for police at ports to seize passports, to stop suspects travelling and to stop British nationals returning to the UK unless they do so on our terms."

Terrorists attempting to return to Great Britain will reportedly be barred from entering the country for at least two years. Cameron said that the purpose of the bill is to keep extremism out of Great Britain and to also prevent possible terrorist attacks.

The prime minister also said that the U.K. will begin barring airlines from flying into Great Britain if airline officials fail to provide the names of passengers who may be affiliated with the Islamic State.

"[…] the root cause of the challenge we face is the extremist narrative. So we must confront this extremism in all its forms. We must ban extremist preachers from our countries. We must root out extremism from our schools, universities and prisons," Cameron said.
