Callie (Sara Ramirez) left Grey Sloan to live with her girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan) in New York, but there's a chance that she might come back to Seattle. Meanwhile, executive producer Shonda Rhimes shares that the story "Grey's Anatomy" is far from over.

In "Grey's Anatomy" season 13, Callie is nowhere to be found because she had already uprooted herself from Seattle and moved to New York to live with her girlfriend and her daughter. The only presence Callie has left in the show is when Arizona (Jessica Shaw) mentioned visiting her and their daughter in New York.

According to TV Line, the reason why Callie was written out of the show was because Ramirez wanted to take some time off. But Ramirez shared that she looks forward to "always being a part of the Shondaland family."

Rhimes praised the presence of Ramirez playing as Callie in the series, and said: "Sara Ramirez's performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week. We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off. I will miss Callie tremendously but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland."

Although Arizona is already cooking up a new romance with Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk), there is still a chance that Callie might return to Seattle and come back to her old life with her family in Grey Sloan.

Rhimes shared in an interview with Fast Company that there's still a lot more to tell from the characters of "Grey's Anatomy."

"I have many more stories to tell. And I feel like Grey's has had this great resurgence, and part of that is because I felt reignited creatively and excited about telling stories there. That's just come from living differently, I think," the showrunner explained.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 returns on Jan. 29, 2017 on ABC.
