There is a high chance that Alex (Justin Chambers) will be going to jail, and this might be his exit to the series. Meanwhile, there are speculations that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will have Alzheimer's just like her mother.

Previously in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13, Alex decided to take a plea bargain with the judge to prevent Jo (Camilla Luddington) from testifying in court because her abusive husband might find her in Seattle if she does. Meredith tried to stop Alex, but it seems that he has made his decision final.

This leads to speculations that Chambers will be leaving "Grey's Anatomy." If Alex takes the plea, he goes to jail. If he fights in court, there is still a high chance that he will lose against DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and that he would be going to jail, also stripped away of his medical license. Either way, Alex will be gone for quite some time, unless Alex fights his way out of this mess alive, just the way Meredith wants him to.

Meanwhile, another plot theory going around is that Meredith had developed Alzheimer's, just like her mom, Ellis (Kate Burton).

Back in the pilot episode of "Grey's Anatomy," it was shown that Meredith's voice over was actually her sharing the events of her day to her mother in the assisted living facility. Later on in the series, she found out that she was positive for the Alzheimer's gene.

According to Entertainment Weekly, it is possible that Meredith is sharing her stories with her three children in the future.

It was also pointed out that the horrible events that took place in Grey Sloan, such as the shootings and the earthquake, might be creations of Meredith's mind when she had developed dementia.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 returns on Jan. 29, 2017 on ABC.
