'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Caterina Scorsone on Amelia's big secret, possible Meredith-Alex romance
The latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 found Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) finally letting someone in on her biggest and most heartbreaking secret.
During Thursday's hour, Amelia struggled with the realization that she isn't pregnant and told Owen (Kevin McKidd) that they probably shouldn't start having children so soon after getting married. But the truth was that she was paralyzed with fear that history would repeat itself and that she could lose another baby.
In "Private Practice," the now-defunct "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff, Amelia had given birth to a baby with no brain. He lived less than an hour before his organs were harvested for donation. Through it all, Amelia told no one — not even Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). She has certainly not told Owen, whom she fears will be disappointed by the story. But in "Roar," Amelia, who was reeling from the death of a young patient, finally opened up about her heartbreaking loss to Alex (Justin Chambers).
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scorsone dished about what's going on in Amelia's head and said that the doctor really doesn't mean to hide her traumatic experience from her new husband.
"I think she wants so badly for him to know her," the actress explained. "The thing that stopped her from revealing things is her fear of overwhelming him or losing him or disappointing him," she added.
The "Grey's" star also previewed "Why Try to Change Me Now," the next episode, revealing that there will be more conflict between Amelia and Owen and that the newlyweds will be bringing their personal problems to work.
"Next week, she's being a bit compulsive about... she doesn't know how to be with Owen," Scorsone said. "She's got this big thing she needs to tell him, and she wants to tell him, and she doesn't know how," she continued.
Meanwhile, Scorsone also spoke about the long-rumored possibility of a romantic relationship between Meredith and Alex.
"They're two of the original characters so everybody wants whatever is going to make them the most happy," she told The Hollywood Reporter. But according to Scorsone, because "Grey's Anatomy" exists in Shondaland, it's really anyone's guess what creator Shonda Rhimes' plans are for the two.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
