The upcoming sixth season of NBC's supernatural police procedural series, "Grimm" is going to be its last and fans are on tenterhooks over how the show will conclude its six-year run.

With a minimum order for 13 episodes, there doesn't seem to be much leg room for "Grimm" to introduce any more major complications, and may instead just focus on tying up all the loose ends. The series finale could either be a clean-cut end or an open-ended cliffhanger that would leave fans with a promise to return in another capacity.

However, at this moment, the future of "Grimm" seems bleak despite fans petitioning NBC to backtrack their previous announcement of cancelling the show after the sixth season. The show has been lauded for its intriguing plot, which is based off of various folklore from the Brothers Grimm and beyond. The show has also been noted for its sensitive approach to cultural diversity, which only a few shows have ever managed on TV. The fans also appreciated the show's portrayal of female characters with strong personalities and can fight for themselves whenever the need arises.

Backtracking a confirmed cancellation may be an unprecedented move in TV history and may also come with some risks on the network's revenues. But if the show does well in its sixth season, NBC may instead opt to extend the shortened 13-episode order to a full 22-episode season to give the show its deserved send-off.

One other possible option is that for another network to pick up "Grimm" for a seventh season. Aside from rallying for NBC not to cancel the show, fans have also been petitioning popular streaming site Netflix to step in and save the show.

Based on the synopsis released by NBC, the sixth season of "Grimm" will see erstwhile allies Nick (David Giuntoli) and Sean (Sasha Roiz) go up against each other yet again in an epic battle of strength, wit and strategy with the fate of their city at stake.

Will Sean, who is now Portland's newly elected mayor, completely go to the dark side and lose himself in his newfound authority? And how far will Nick go to take Adalind (Claire Coffee) and their son back, especially now that Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) has started regaining her former identity as Nick's ex-fiancée, Juliette? Will his efforts put him in the crosshairs of Adalind and Renard's powerful daughter Diana (Hannah R. Loyd) who has already proven more than once that she will do anything to protect her parents and keep them close together?

Nick's friend Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and his wife Rosalee (Bree Turner) will be facing the reality of bringing a child to such a tumultuous world, while also lending a hand in the fight against their adversaries.

There are a lot more things to look forward to as "Grimm" begins its sixth and final season run next year on Friday, Jan. 6, at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
