'Half-Life 3' news: fans take it to Steam Awards to campaign for the release of the 'threequel'

It is no secret that the notion of "Half-Life 3" still keeps fans' eyes peeled despite Valve not really giving an indication that they are planning to release the supposed sequel ever. More recently, in an effort to further their campaign to promote the series, they took it to Steam Awards to award "Half-Life 2: Episode 2" as the "Game That Deserves a Sequel" accolade for the year.

So far, the poll for the aforementioned category is being dominated by the first-person sci-fi game. Loyalists are taking it a step further by encouraging other gamers who would like to see "Half-Life 3" come to fruition to eventually join the campaign in the hopes for a bigger impact.

The move will hopefully finally tickle Valve's interest in revisiting the franchise as they seem to have just dropped it like cold turkey after they rolled out "Half-Life 2" back in 2007. What is interesting is that the preceding title has garnered critical acclaim which only makes it look like a no-brainer to not flesh out the theme more. Still, after almost a decade, it seems like the notion of a "Half-Life 3" is bleak more than ever.

CEO Gabe Newell has actually already subtly addressed the reason for not having anymore "Half-Life" game. Earlier this year, he explained that the only reason they would decide to check back on their old titles is if people working for the company are clamoring for it. So it might not be that much of an effect to them that fans are relentlessly pushing for the idea.

Still, the game developing company is clearly missing out an opportunity to rake in some sales given that it is obvious that fans will be gobbling any new content from the series. This is especially true at a time when a more immersive experience via the introduction of the virtual reality (VR) capabilities is slowly taking the videogame market by storm.
