'Half-Life 3' release date news 2016: Valve to launch VR-ready game?
Ever since the video game "Half-Life 2" came out more than 10 years ago, fans and critics have already thought about the franchise's third installment. After many years of waiting for "Half-Life 3" to come out, players are still wondering if the game will ever be launched. Game developer Valve has continued to stay silent with regard to its development and release date. Nonetheless, fans are still hoping that the company will provide concrete details with regard to their plans for the series.
During the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2016, fans expected "Half-Life 3" to be announced along with the other highly anticipated titles. However, players were left in dismay after Valve decided to skip the third installment of the series during the event.
According to a report by The News Independent, Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve, has not completely ruled out the possibility of a third game. However, he noted that the company has to come up with an incredible idea to convince him to develop the title. There are speculations circulating that a team from Valve has already shown some interest in developing "Half-Life 3."
Meanwhile, there are rumors suggesting that Valve is planning to bring the third title of the game to VR in 2018. According to the latest report, Valve engineer Alan Yates allegedly revealed the company's plan to develop a full VR "Half-Life 3."
"I was super fortunate to start at Valve right around the time Michael Abrash had begun the AR/VR research team," Yates said. "It was a much smaller team then than it is now, it has since grown to encompass about a third of the company, but the key individuals that solved most of the really hard technological problems and facilitated this generation of consumer headsets are still here working on the next generation."
As of the moment, Valve has yet to verify the statement from Yates.
