'Half-Life 3' release date news: Game expected in 2018; designed for virtual reality technology?

The first-person shooter video game "Half-Life 3" is still a topic being talked about in the rumor mill today. Although developer Valve has not released any updates regarding the game for a long time already, fans are still hopeful that it will come to reality.

According to reports, the game may be launched sometime in year 2018. There is no specific date but it may be out in celebration of Valve's 20th anniversary. It's not confirmed though so reports must be taken with a pinch of salt. Some are optimistic about the third installment in the series but there are some who have lost hope saying that the follow-up to 2004's "Half-Life 2" will never come around.

Polygon noted that Valve may have lost the interest in making and releasing "Half-Life 3" because the series writer of the video game stories, Marc Laidlaw, left the company to pursue other goals. GameNGuide also reported that most of the members in the original team of "Half-Life have already retired or resigned from the company.

Valve chief Gabe Newell is already aware that countless of fans are clamoring for the third game. However, this does not mean that he will be giving in to cry. In fact, he has chosen not to speak out about the issue. He did tell Game Slice that the only way the game can be revived is when a number of people will jump into the bandwagon in Valve and work on it.

In the meantime, not all hope may be lost as there are rumors suggesting that the game is being prepared for virtual reality technology. If it turns out to be true, the game could hit HTC Vive which was just released.
