It's been over a decade since Valve released the latest title for the "Half-Life" franchise. Though fans might have lost hope through the years, a recent confirmation by the developers managed to rekindle gamers' hope for a new title. Rumor has it that a virtual reality title will soon be launched by Valve.

Valve's virtual reality application, which is called "Destinations," revealed that "Half-Life 3" is currently being developed. "Destinations" is an app that allows its users to explore real and virtual places. The latest update was launched on Sept. 26.

According to recent reports, Valve might be creating a video game for the Virtual Reality (VR) platform. The developers reportedly experimented with VR in the past. Previous assets of "Half-Life" were dedicated for these VR tests. Hence, it would not be surprising if the developers decide to unveil a title that supports VR.

A few curious gamers dug through the codes in the latest updates embedded in the "Destinations" app. Reports said that that a project titled "HL:VR" was embedded in the codes.

VG 24/7 speculated that the code could have been from the past experimentations with VR. Furthermore, a leaked detail involving VR revealed an assortment of weapons. The string was different from the original code; hence, the news outlet confirmed that the video game is really undergoing development.

Another strand of code revealed "used to force the HL:VR to speak." Since the main protagonist Gordon Freeman can't speak, a new protagonist will reportedly star in the "Half-Life" VR title.

Though there have been no official announcements yet, rumors pointed out that Valve will be launching the latest title on the 20th anniversary of the "Half-Life" franchise. This will be in 2018.

The first "Half-Life" video game was developed by Valve in 1998 for Microsoft Windows. The developers launched the second installment of the franchise in 2004.

Stay tuned for more updates on Valve's upcoming video game, "Half-Life 3."
