'Hawaii Five-0' season 7 spoilers, update: Masi Oka to depart show after episode 13
It's going to be a sad day for all "Hawaii Five-0" fans especially for those who love seeing Japanese-American actor Masi Oka as Dr. Max Bergman.
According to reports, Oka will be departing the show for good after seven years. He has been playing the chief medical examiner since the fifth episode of the first season. He initially started out as a recurring character but by season 2, he became a regular cast member. He has helped solve crimes since then.
Unfortunately, Oka will be saying goodbye to the series now and the reason is more because of practicality. The actor spoke to Entertainment Weekly and he revealed that he will no longer be appearing in the show after episode 13 due to his commuting back and forth to Hawaii and Japan or Los Angeles.
The actor owns a business in Japan and L.A. which makes it hard for him to be traveling to Hawaii a lot. "I'm probably the only one who really commutes to Hawaii, maybe 18 times a year round trip," Oka said. "It got to the point where the producers were very gracious enough to — like we talked about it and we thought Max was entering his journey and they allowed me, kind of like for my health as well, to be able to take a reprieve from being on the show," he added.
As for Max's exit, Oka teased that it's going to be an interesting and dramatic one. Fans can expect to see the things that really made the medical examiner a very interesting and unique character. Spoilers suggested that Max will be heading to Africa with his wife Sabrina Lane (Rumer Willis).
Moreover, the upcoming episode of the series is said to deal with a 10-year-old cold case which involves a missing teenage girl. "Hawaii Five-0" is currently on hiatus but it will be back on Friday, Dec. 9, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
