'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: show's cast, crew talk about New York bombings, political climate and Quinn's fate

A couple of months delayed due to some scheduling switches, "Homeland" season 6 has finally arrived looking a bit different but still feels organic to its general narrative.

For the first time, the American television series touches base in the United States which only makes it more relatable. More so when the season's narrative moves away from the usual connotation in terms of tackling terrorism which almost always in a roundabout way ends up in explosions or guns firing.

"The whole bomb thing in New York, we kind of wanted to avoid that," executive producer Chip Johannessen told TVLine for the media outlets' spoilers feature. "It felt like bad karma to bring a big bomb to New York City. We're not going to be doing that."

Instead, the Showtime original will be treading a bit of a political route with the introduction of a new president in Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) "who is not yet in power and who is very much at odds with the establishment." This narrative will be coupled with character arcs including that of Quinn's (Rupert Friend) which arguably poses one of the biggest mysteries of the season.

It can be remembered that at some point, the fan-favorite character's fate was in limbo following the events last season. And as it turns out, even folks behind "Homeland" were also unsure of what to do with him moving forward until they were able to come up with a narrative for Quinn which is not usually tackled on the small screen.

"One of the very first ideas [executive producer Howard Gordon] and I had when we talked about Homeland was there was no show on television dramatizing the return of our soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan," showrunner Alex Gansa told Entertainment Weekly. "So now we really get to watch a true causality of the war on terror."

The TV exec's sentiments are backed up by that of Friend adding: "You have a character in season 6 and he's basically unrecognizable from the previous seasons. Some will say, 'But where's my old friend?' But that's not the way the world works."

True enough, the upcoming episode after the early drop of the season premiere of the political thriller titled "The Man in the Basement" follows Quinn as he tries to settle in his brand-new life back in the United States.

Homeland" airs every Sunday, 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
