Carrie Ann Mathison (Claire Danes) would soon find out that living the life of an ex-CIA agent wouldn't be a walk in the park.

The latest installment of "Homeland" won't be back on air until January 2017, but Danes said her character would be dealing with so much this upcoming season. The burden of a bloody past would hound her, and she would be living with a guilt-ridden conscience that could cause her to break down.

Danes recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly, and she gamely shared how Carrie would struggle with guilt in season 6.

"This idea of atonement is still playing. She's accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she's still wrestling with that," she said.

Danes also shared that Carrie would be relying on medication not because she's gone crazy but because she has to deal with the "central figure of guilt."

Alex Gansa, "Homeland's" showrunner, said season 6's plot would focus on the period between the transition of power from the current president of the United States to the newly elected president. Gansa said the upcoming season's plot is running parallel with the current political climate of America.

Meanwhile, when asked about the fate of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), Gansa vague answers.

"How we're dramatizing Peter Quinn is still undecided at this moment," he reportedly said.

Nevertheless, Movie News Guide said that the upcoming season could have Carrie and Quinn reigniting their romance. It remains to be seen how they would go about it and how Quinn would recover from the injuries that almost cost him his life.

Considering the extent of damage he suffered, it might take time for him to recuperate, and there's still a bit of uncertainty as to the capacity his character would be playing.

The network hasn't released official word as to "Homeland" season 6's premiere, but with production slated to start later this summer, they could be aiming for a 2017 release.
