'How to Get Away with Murder' season 3B shares first look at Annalise officially a prison inmate
It may have taken a week more for a new episode of "How to Get Away with Murder" to air, but fans are advised not to hope for any good development for Annalise (Viola Davis) when the show picks up. In fact, her situation just got significantly worse with her officially behind bars as charges against her are being heard.
In a first-look photo for the legal drama's imminent comeback, Annalise is seen in her cell, disheveled and seemingly zoned out. She sports the penitentiary's burgundy uniform for inmates as well as her identification band, which only makes everything more real for her.
"Honestly, when I realized we had arrested Annalise in episode 2, I was like, 'Wait a second, that means we're going to have to see her in jail! That terrifies me, because who could make prison more interesting than Orange Is the New Black?'" show executive producer Pete Nowalk told Entertainment Weekly in a press round for the midseason premiere of the Shondaland property. "I feel like we found our way to do it where it's awesome. Also, we had to put Viola Davis in a box and watch what she would do. That was such a good writing exercise. She's in a jumpsuit. I'm going to say — spoiler alert — it's burgundy. We're just a little different."
It seems like at this point, "How to Get Away with Murder" has no plans of letting up on its leading lady, as on top of serving time behind bars and grieving the loss of Wes (Alfred Enoch), she would need to deal with her cellmates. Being not really a sociable person, makes it doubly hard for Annalise to adjust to her current predicament.
"Annalise is actually very prominently not in solitary," Nowalk added. "When we see her, we'll see that she's in a jail cell with at least two other inmates because of overcrowding, which is super real right now. She's going to have to deal with these women, like sharing a toilet in the open. It's not good," he added.
In the outside world, the Keating 4 are still baffled by the death of one of their own. And with their mentor appearing to be at the center of it all, it will be interesting how the remaining group will tackle the situation.
