Howard University Faces Racial Threats From Alleged Disgruntled Univ. of Missouri Student
Officials at Howard Universiy in Washington, D.C. have reportedly dispatched more security to the university following an online threat made by an alleged disgruntled University of Missouri student.
Campus officials said they were "aware" of the online threat made toward the historically African American university in Washington, D.C. and were taking precautions in response to the threat.
Student were reportedly told Thursday that they would not be penalized for missing class if they did so for their safety.
A university professor reportedly noticed the threat this week while using the social media platform 4Chan.
The threat claimed to be coming from a University of Missouri student who said they couldn't stand the protests over racism currently taking place at the university.
The suspect wrote that he "left [Missouri University] yesterday because he just couldn't put up with it anymore," the Washington City Paper reported.
Wayne Frederick, President of Howard Universiy, released a statement saying that precautions have been taken in response to the online threat.
"We are aware of the on-line threat, and have made appropriate notifications [...] We urge anyone with information on the threat to contact the D.C. police department or the FBI," the president's office said in a statement.
The threat to Howard University comes after the University of Missouri faced a similar threat earlier this week, when a 19-year-old suspect claimed he would attack African American students on campus on Wednesday morning. The susect was subsequently arrested.
Students are continuing to gather on the University of Missouri campus this week to protest alleged ongoing racism at the university.
