'Humans' season 2 spoilers, release date: Niska's intention for stolen code uncertain; no specifics yet for UK and US release dates
"Humans" season 2's specific release dates for its U.S. and U.K. premieres are still unknown, but a possible story arc is already cooking. Co-writers Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent were the ones who hinted which direction AMC's top-rating series would go this second season.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly right after the season 1 finale, they intimated that Niska (Emily Berrington) could be the bearer of gore and doom to both humans and synths this season. Nevertheless, the two were quick to add that Niska isn't bad, but neither is she good.
Given Niska's penchant for trouble, the writers deemed her the perfect character to be stealing a program containing the dangerous consciousness code. This code may be used to create more conscious synths, and the repercussions of it going to the wrong hands could be unimaginable.
Viewers have already seen the sentient synth Niska killing a human at a brothel and causing a riot with other humans. However, they also know that she has a soft spot as seen in her interactions with Dr. Millican (William Hurt). The mixture of Niska's vulnerability, unpredictability, and the uncertainty of her intention could make "Humans" season 2 very exciting, according to the writers.
Meanwhile, new cast members will be welcomed this season. Carrie-Anne Moss' inclusion in season 2 has already been confirmed. She would be playing the role of Dr. Athena Morrow, an artificial intelligence expert. She and Niska could be working closely together this upcoming season, along with another new character, Milo Khoury (Marshall Allman), a young tech tycoon. Sam Palladio will also be joining the cast as Ed, who might be seen in most scenes with Gemma Chan, who plays the synth Anita.
"Humans" season 2 could have an earlier release date in the U.K., with the premiere scheduled to air sometime this year. As for the U.S. premiere, fans would have to wait until 2017.
