The husband of a brain-dead woman who was taken off of life support has denounced former Florida Governor Jeb Bush as a "coward," saying the politician "put [him] through hell."

Michael Schiavo, husband of Terri Shiavo, has spoken out against the Florida politician following a 15-year battle with Bush from 1990 to 2005. Shiavo's wife, Terri, was hospitalized in 1990 after suffering cardiac arrest in the apartment she and Michael shared.

Terri was kept alive via feeding tubes, and some doctors and Michael argued that Terri was in a vegetable state and should be removed from life support. Terri's parents, who were Catholic, joined forces with then-Florida Governor Jeb Bush to convince the courts not to euthanize Terri, arguing that there was still a living part of her brain.

Following numerous court battles, Terri was eventually taken off of life support in 2005, dying a few days later. Bush then pursued a criminality trial against Schiavo, but the trial never went to court.

Now, as Bush may be preparing to make a presidential run in 2016, Michael Schiavo has spoken out against the politician, calling him "vindictive" and arguing that he misused his executive power to convince the courts to keep his wife on life support.

"It was a living hell," Schiavo said of his time battling Bush, adding "and I blame him."

"I wouldn't trust him in any type of political office," Schiavo added.

Those who believe Terri should have remained alive have described the recent Politico story bashing Bush as a one-sided smear campaign that didn't fully disclose all of the facts.
