'Indiana Jones 5' news and updates: Harrison Ford to reprise titular role for fifth movie
Harrison Ford will soon be donning a fedora again, as Disney Studios recently confirmed that "Indiana Jones 5" is on track, with him reprising his lead as the swashbuckling archeologist. Also on board is Steven Spielberg, who will serve as the film's director. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will serve as the producers. David Koepp, meanwhile, will be the one writing the script, and John Williams will produce the musical score.
However, it seems that George Lucas, the show's creator, will not be coming back. This is despite Spielberg's announcement that he will not be working on a new "Indiana Jones" film without the producer on board.
Ford, who is now in his 70s, said in the past that he will not do another "Indiana Jones" film if Spielberg was not involved and if the script was not good enough. The casting of the other characters of the film is currently underway.
Little is known about the storyline as of the moment. The only thing that is clear, however, is that the eponymous character will not be killed off in the fifth film. "The one thing I will tell you is I'm not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it," said Spielberg in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. This is good news for Ford fans, especially since his "Star Wars" character, Han Solo, was killed off in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Ford began playing Indiana Jones in 1981 in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Prior to the confirmation of his casting in the fifth film, various names were brought up to take the mantle of the fedora-wearing, whip-cracking adventurer, including Chris Pratt and Shia LeBoeuf, who played Mutt, Indy's son in 2008's critically panned "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".
The fifth "Indiana Jones" film is targeted for release on July 19, 2019.
