'Injustice 2' release date news update: Red Hood becomes a playable character

The arrival of "Injustice 2" next year has already been anticipated by many DC and video game fans, although the complete details regarding the gameplay and its new list of characters are not yet clear. It is still up in the air if the upcoming video game sequel will be bringing in more classic DC characters, although many fans are chiming in to online discussions to express their hopes for the inclusion of their favorite DC heroes and villains.

If the latest rumors are anything to go by, the new addition in the roster is none other than Red Hood, as reported by GamenGuide. However, it will be tricky how the game will portray Red Hood as the alias is taken by different characters in the DC comic books and media.

Interestingly, the creators of the game are open for suggestions. The director of "Injustice 2" posted a poll on Twitter to know which DC characters do the fans want to see on the upcoming game title. Ed Boon posted a poll on Twitter last Aug. 12, asking the fans which character they believe should be the Red Hood.

Many fans were surprised when the "Injustice 2" game director posted the Twitter poll. At the moment, fans are choosing between Jason Todd and The Joker. However, it appears that more DC fans and gamers would rather see Jason Todd as the person behind Red Hood.

The original "Injustice" franchise has both The Joker and Jason Todd and the only thing linking the two to each other is the mysterious persona of the Red Hood. The Joker was the first one to pick up the Red Hood identity before he became the clown-faced gangster. After several years, it was Jason Todd's turn to take on the Red Hood as he turned the tables on the Joker and exacted revenge on him using the same persona that the latter once used.

Perhaps the fans want to see something different in "Injustice 2," that is why they would rather see Jason Todd as the Red Hood. The Joker already became a playable character in the hit video game in 2013, "Injustice: Gods Among Us." Still, there is no game title that included Jason Todd yet as a playable character. "Injustice 2" could be the right vehicle to introduce the character to the gaming community.

According to GameSpot, "Injustice 2" will be released in 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Before it was rumored that the Red Hood will be in the game, Wonder Woman and the Blue Beetle were already officially confirmed to be part of the roster. The original DC personalities featured in the first "Injustice" game are Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus, Supergirl and Gorilla Grodd.
