'Injustice 2' release date news: Creative director debunks rumors about game rolling out in March 2017
NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon squashed rumors that "Injustice 2," the critically acclaimed fighting game featuring DC comics characters, will be released in March 2017 on his Twitter account. He later announced on the same social media site that the game will be released on May 16.
As with its predecessor, heroes and villains are expected to be playable on "Injustice 2." Included in the "Hero" lineup are Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, The Flash, Robin, Supergirl, Aquaman, Black Canary, and Cheetah. Meanwhile, playable villains include Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Deadshot, Atrocitus, and Gorilla Grodd. Dr. Fate and Cyborg were also recently announced to be playable characters in "Injustice 2", although the full lineup has not been revealed yet by the game's producers. However, Boon indicated the possibility that characters even outside the DC universe may appear in-game.
Meanwhile, a mobile game version of "Injustice 2" was also announced. This was announced by Boon on Twitter. The mobile game was recently soft-launched in the Philippines, according to Touch Arcade.
"Injustice 2" is the sequel to 2013's "Injustice: Gods Among Us," which showed the Justice League breaking up and Superman setting up a new world order in its aftermath. The storyline of the new game will pick up from where the first title picked off, with Batman and a team he gathered, which is comprised of both heroes and villains, needing to restore order in a dystopian setting. They will also find themselves facing an opposing group, which aims to reinstate Superman into power, who was imprisoned at the end of "Injustice: Gods Among Us."
In "Injustice 2," the characters' looks, fighting style, and armor can be customized according to players' preferences. Settings include well-known places in the DC universe, such as Metropolis, Gotham City, and Atlantis.
"Injustice 2" will be available on PS4 and Xbox One.
