"Injustice 2" is one of the most anticipated games to debut this year, and a new female character has been added to the line-up: Black Canary.

Dinah Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary, is the latest DC hero joining the game's roster. The gameplay trailer from IGN gives a first look at the superheroine as she trains with another recently-announced avatar, Blue Beetle. Using her signature glass-shattering sonic scream, Black Canary manages to take down her enemies with so much ease.

To date, a character profile for the new character is not available on the website. Similar to a majority of DC characters, Black Canary's history is different in every decade. She is popularly known for having professional and romantic ties to the Green Arrow. She was also her own mother in the comics after the 1983 retroactive continuity change occurred.

Black Canary joins the growing list of playable characters for the game including The Flash, Superman, Gorilla Grodd, Atrocitus, Batman, Blue Beetle, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Aquaman. The official "Injustice 2" website has now been updated to include official descriptions for Bane, Brainiac, Poison Ivy, and Robin.

Last week, developer NetherRealm unveiled a gameplay video featuring Robin and the other characters via Twitch live stream. Batman also appeared in the clip, and it seems that he has a new stance. Elsewhere in the video, NetherRealm boss Ed Boon teased there'll be some "obscure characters" making their way to the game's roster. Boon pointed out how releasing third-party characters as DLC was popular in "Mortal Kombat X," so they are planning to introduce the same concept in "Injustice 2."

A closed beta for the game is currently ongoing. Folks from NetherRealm said that "more codes will go out" when the beta's second version is released.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, "Injustice 2" comes out on May 16 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
