iPad Mini 5 release date, specs: Tablet to launch in March? flexible display and Smart Connector among expected features

There has been no confirmation yet as to when Apple will be releasing their new iPad Mini 5, but it is expected to be introduced this coming March. Meanwhile, a flexible display and a Smart Connector are among the expected new features of the iPad Mini 5.

The new iPad Mini 5, along with the iPad Pro 2, will reportedly be introduced by Apple in their upcoming Keynote event this March. The latest release of the iPad Mini series was back in September 2015 with the iPad Mini 4, and fans of the gadget have been waiting for the new and improved device.

Macworld reports that the iPad Mini 5 will be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, which was at 6.1mm. Apple can make the new iPad Mini slimmer at 5mm since Samsung has already made their Galaxy Tab S2 at only 5.6mm.

It also anticipated that the new iPad Mini 5 will have a flexible display, since Apple already submitted a patent of applying the feature onto their iPhones, to the point where it can be folded and clipped onto surfaces according to Apple Insider.

However, it looks like Apple is still developing the feature, and there is a high chance that it will not be one of the iPad Mini 5's new features.

Another anticipated feature is the Smart Connector. The Smart Connector is actually an iPad Pro feature, where the left side edge of the tablet has a set of data and power ports that connect to a keyboard case. But having the Smart Connector on the iPad Mini 5 can create new uses for the device and add other enhancements as well.

The Smart Connector would be a great addition to the iPad Mini 5, throwing in an enhanced Smart Keyboard made specifically for the tablet.

The iPad Mini 5 is expected to be unveiled this March.
