iPhone 8 leak, rumors, latest update: IP68 water resistant feature not essential to the handset?

Apple

While Samsung devotees have got their attention glued to the alleged features of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Apple enthusiasts are crazed about the leaked specs of iPhone 8, which boast revolutionary features that will bring the already impressive iPhone 7 to a higher notch.

One of the most-talked-about features of iPhone 8 is its all-glass organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. Several tech reports have compared the all-glass design to the iPhone 4 as both have the same glass panels with a metal frame located in the middle of the device. The metal frame is put in the middle to connect the glass panels together. This is contrary to the long-standing rumor that iPhone 8 will have no metal feature in its all-glass shell.

Another rumor that is currently circulating in different tech websites is that the iPhone 8 will have better water and dust resistance with its IP68 upgrade. This means the phone can already be submerged in water at 1.5-meters deep for half an hour.

This is said to be a major step to the IP67 water-resistant rating featured in the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. However, according to Forbes, the update may be substantial but it is not "essential."

It can be remembered that Apple justified that it ditched the headphone jack in order to have a larger battery, which should be "essential" to the iPhone 7's water-resistant features. The thing is, Galaxy S7 is already installed with IP68 water-resistance feature even if it has a headphone jack.

Aside from these, iPhone 8 is speculated to have its wireless charging feature, which Energous CEO Steve Rizzone has hinted at. Rizzone previously stated that their wireless charging technology has been signed with a "key strategic partnership," which is rumored to be Apple.

Other alleged specs include an embedded home button and a fingerprint scanner, a dual-camera setup and faster performance, among others.
