iPhone 8 leaks, rumors and latest news: wireless charging finally happening in the device?
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus can still be considered as new devices, but Apple enthusiasts are now looking forward to the release of iPhone 8. It is expected that the anticipated handset will boast more impressive features, considering the fact that the competition among smartphone makers is getting tight.
Apple already has gathered a significant amount of fan base, which promises successful launch of their devices. However, with other manufacturers launching their handsets with better specs, it is expected that the Cupertino-based will come out with their own version of innovation.
Thus, iPhone 8 is expected to ditch the physical home button and make a virtual home screen instead. It is also expected that the handset will come with a wireless charging. If both of these features are assumed to be true, then iPhone 8 is the first one to achieve both specs.
Several tech reports, on the other hand, claim that the technology is currently being developed so that iPhone 8 would be charged wirelessly via a plugged-in transmitter that can reach the handset up until 15 feet away from the power source.
In an interview with The Verge, company CEO Steve Rizzone, the transmitters are planned to ship at the end of this year. It was during Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 when Energous attended the event and announced that their transmitters will be shipped at the end of that year.
However, Rizzone stated that the company's plan changed following Energous' signing of "key strategic partnership" a month following the event, resulting in a refreshed plan of reducing the technology before the start of shipping. It is believed that the "key strategic partnership" is Apple.
Other expected specs include a curved screen display, three variants of 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch and a Pro model with 5.5-inch as well. Apple has yet to confirm the rumors.
